When to go on safari in Sri Lanka: a month-by-month planner
Sri Lanka has two monsoons, so some park is in season in most months. Pick your month first, then the park. Our ratings are qualitative and sourced.
Last checked 23 Oct 2026. General guidance from the sources listed below. Seasons shift year to year. Check the park status before you travel.
How do Sri Lanka's two monsoons shape safari seasons?
Because the two monsoons reach different parts of the island at different times, the dry months fall differently from park to park.(Reported · last checked 23 Oct 2026)
Which parks work outside the main dry season?
Udawalawe is rated Good in every month outside its Best months, and the whale coasts take turns: the south from about November and the east from about May.
When are whales on each coast?
The full coast-by-month picture is on our whales and dolphins guide.
